# Mission: Design Systems

## Why
Learn design systems from a backend engineer’s perspective so product design decisions feel structured, reusable, and implementable rather than subjective. The goal is to understand how good product interfaces are made consistent across screens, teams, and code.

## Success looks like
- Explain what a design system is and what problem it solves.
- Read a design system like Material, Carbon, or GOV.UK and identify its foundations, components, patterns, and governance.
- Make better product design decisions using tokens, components, states, accessibility, and usage guidance.
- Translate design intent into frontend/API-friendly constraints without flattening the design quality.

## Constraints
- Learner is a backend engineer, interested in product design.
- Lessons should be practical, concise, and tied to real product examples.
- Start from fundamentals; avoid assuming formal design training.

## Out of scope
- Becoming a full-time brand designer.
- Mastering Figma mechanics before understanding design-system thinking.
